International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women: Standing Together Against Abuse
This November 25, the world unites to end violence against women and children. Likewise, the Philippines works tirelessly to protect women’s rights and promote a culture of respect and equality.
The enactment of Republic Act No. 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004, Republic Act No. 7877 or the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995 and Republic Act No. 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act, among others, aims to address abuses against women in all spaces, whether public or online.
In the same manner, the enactment of Republic Act No. 9710 or the Magna Carta of Women and Republic Act No. 6725 or the Act Strengthening the Prohibition on Discrimination Against Women in Employment, among others, has provided the Philippines with a solid legal foundation for addressing and preventing discrimination against women. These laws ensure women’s rights to equal opportunities in employment, political participation, education, and protection from violence, while strengthening protections against gender-based discrimination in the workplace.
Let’s stand together to create a world free from violence and support efforts that protect women and promote equality.
